A French doctor on LCI a French channel suggested confidently that it would be better to come and test the corona virus vaccines on the African continent . Personally i had even forgotten France is still having white doctors because most doctors in France are African. This sparked a lot of social media outburst from Africans in the diaspora and African celebrities which is okay in the spirit of Pan Africanism but is it logical?
In Africa 20% of the population survives on what I call hand to mouth. Get up in the morning go hustle get some coins if lucky and buy what to eat. When our governments followed the bandwagon and ordered lockdowns are they ready to feed all these people for an unknown period of time. What about the middle class that pay monthly mortgages will the governments pay all the bills? Before we copy and paste the measures taken by the West we need to find serious answers to all these questions. Some governments in Europe and America have put aside relief packages worth the African GDP combined to counterbalance the losses brought by the pandemic. The only solution i see is running to the world bank and IMF for aid.
As we stay in the confines of quarantine, Project Act Africa calls upon all African citizens and leaders to reflect on how we have for over 50 years run our economies on Aid and foreign donations. This leaves us trapped the donors affect policy making and as if that’s not enough donations are injected into military activities and weapons to grip tighter on power for years. 20% is used to buy hotels, private jets, houses, custom made cars from the same nations that donated to us. Can you imagine this kind of mindset?🤔😭😪
Africa is not prepared for such situations because of the way we run our systems. Do we even teach our kids in schools how to handle a public health emergency like this? The education system is also far from reality on ground we are not teaching our kids entrepreneurship and independence but rather teach them to look for jobs thus having the highest unemployment rate. If Jack Ma an entrepreneur from China is donating masks to Africa (thanks to him) now, will he donate again when the virus resurges? Europe is now preparing to test the vaccine in Africa and I have seen a lot of resistance on social media “Africa is not a lab” but if we are not a lab what are we then? No one knows because we don’t tell the African story our way. Foreign organizations tell their version of Africa destitution, ignorance and misery. One hand comes donating green papers (dollars) in cameras as it takes diamond gold vanadium oil from the Congo Zaire, Mali in obscurity with no cameras flashing.
We do have a solution already to this pandemic ( Covid Organics from Madagascar) but our leaders are not free to procure it. The WHO is claiming the tisane lacks scientific proof yet all it has done so far is cure people in malgache as millions are dying in Europe. I have two questions to pose at this moment and the first question is when our mothers in Africa wash us in “kyogero” traditional herbs after birth does the WHO first prove its efficacy? Question two if Covid Organics was discovered by a country not in Africa would the WHO be as hesitant as it is now.
When France announced lockdown the next day Francophone Africa did copy and paste and announced lockdowns too. With the starvation going on in Africa our leaders need to understand that before applying the same measures as the West, Africa has to analyze first that we can’t apply the same measures our problems need custom made solutions. In Africa the people with ideas have no power but the people in power have absolutely no idea what to do next. All they do as President Kagame said is go to Europe to talk about our problems with strangers instead of calling us on one table to solve our issues. In 1884 whites gathered in Berlin to lay strategies on how to dominate Africa and forever keep it that way. First they divided it in small pieces we now call countries that are easy to destabilize and also can’t exist alone but only on foreign aid. As long as Africa doesn’t join under one umbrella to solve its issues it will never heal.
Corona virus is far from the problems faced in Africa. Malaria, starvation, corruption, poverty and ignorance are killing Africa more than this virus. The vaccine controversy is some other demonstration of our dependence on the West. We almost import everything even food can you imagine how absurd that sounds with all the fertile land we have and the youngest population!
African celebrities condemned this act of testing the vaccine in Africa which is okay in the spirit of Pan Africanism and as a scientist I know that a vaccine is actually a virus that has been made docile and harmless just to boost the immune system. It may come with side effects. But as long as Africa still gets foreign aid and some economies in West Africa have their national reserves in France, the motherland shall never be free to make bold decisions. It’s called leverage or holding the upper hand at the negotiating table, that’s what the West has.
As Project Act Africa we believe in providing solutions. Instead of the noise on social media the African diaspora and our lucky rich so called celebrities should rather use their financial muscle, influence and connections to fund our own research for home made solutions somewhere in Africa. African governments should unite like never before and inject money into research as Madagascar has demonstrated that in the end it pays off. Africa has a lot of potential but our best brains are all in Europe and America willingly through an organized brain drainage system. In my country most of the top performers at national level get scholarships abroad and very few come back. That lives the motherland with people in power with absolutely no idea what to do.
May God bless the motherland.
